The Friends of Fort Frederick is a non-profit organization that was formed to contribute support to Fort Frederick State Park in Big Poole, MD. We sponsor educational activities and programs throughout the year, and contribute financially to support the park's historical, cultural, and administrative needs.
Fort Frederick encapsulates American history from the colonial period to the present and is one of the largest fortifications built by English colonists in North America. The design of the fort conforms to the style developed early in the 18th century.
The fort's stone walls and barracks have been restored to their 1758 appearance. Historic displays are in the fort, barracks, and Visitors Center. The park annually holds military reenactments and other special events. Park lands adjoin the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal passes through park acreage. Tours are available by request. Daily Living History programming is available from Memorial Day through Labor Day and on weekends in the spring and fall.
We are pleased to welcome you to our new web site and to introduce you to our organization. Please take a few minutes to look over these pages. You will find special events and a variety of activities for all.
